Ruby Dare
My Life as a Spicy Romance Author

Well Hello There

HI!! MY NAME IS RUBY DARE.  I’m an author of spicy interracial romances, with amazing plus size heroines. I write in the genres of paranormal, fantasy, contemporary, and dark. There are just too many delicious genres I couldn’t possibly stick to one! But no matter what sub-genre of romance I write, they have one thing in common; they are all very spicy.  I’ve been writing since I was old enough to hold a pen.  But I only started publishing books two  years ago. And in that time I’ve published three books, two anthologies, and one novella. And 2024 is shaping up to be my biggest release year yet with the first one coming out February 13. When I’m not listening to the characters in my head and writing down their stories I  love to spend time at the theatre and taking long drives. I’m  a sucker for a good cup of tea and a great book. I’m a water baby through and through. I love the ocean. I find the ocean very calming. If you want to keep up to date on all my writings and my crazy writing life subscribe to my mailing list.  Truth or Dare Newsletter

Upcoming Sale

SOMETHING IS WRONG When I order books to sell they aren’t always perfect and I refuse to sell ones that aren’t up to snuff. Recently I received 15 copies of the second book in my Fae vs. Warlock series and it’s a relatively small error, the font on the spine is incorrect, but I can not sell them like that.  Can you imagine having the complete  series sitting on your bookshelf and that one book has a font that isn’t like the others. Have you ever heard the song which one of these is not like the others?” Some people don’t care because it’s the story that matters. But I care, maybe it’s my OCD. But anyway, in honor of my birthday I will be giving away a signed copy of  book 2, Chosen, when an autographed copy of book 1, Covenant is purchased through my website, I only have 15 of the wrong ones so once they are gone the promo is over. It starts today so head on over to www.ruby-dare.com and pick up the first two books in the Fae vs. Warlock series for the price of one.

Hello 2024

INSPIRATION IS EVERYWHERE So many things out in the world inspire me to write. It could be part of a song or a line that someone says in a movie or television program. It could be a random idea that just  pops in my head and starts with the thought “What if” those are my favorite. “What if” can really open up my imagination. What images run through my head when I think of my male leads? I usually start with the voice. How deep is it? Is there an accent? Does he pronounce a certain letter or a certain word in a special way? It all depends on the mood I’m in. But are they ever based on someone real? Yes and no.  Stature, yes. But personality, no. I’ll leave it at that.

IF YOU LIKED Spoiler Alert or A Merry Little Meet Cute or Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute then you will LOVE  Until Next Time

It’s not as easy as it looks on TV –  Abigail wasn’t looking for love. Liam wasn’t looking for complications. But,  an animal shelter fundraiser threw them into each other’s orbits and nothing has been the same since. Can Abigail’s And Liam’s relationship withstand the truth bomb that implodes their lives, or will they get canceled  mid-romance? Until Next Time is a spicy contemporary romance with themes of stepping outside your comfort zone,  being your authentic self, and learning to trust. It is the first book in the stand-alone Hollywood Romance Series.

This is my last release from 2023. It was inspired by my love of certain tv shows that shall not be named but that I’m definitely a super fan of. This story definitely came from a “what if” moment. Below is a little excerpt. I hope you enjoy it.

The evening ended far too soon for my liking and I had an inkling of a feeling that Liam felt the same way. Liam paid, leaving Matthew a very generous tip. He opened the door for me, being a true gentleman.

“May I walk you to your car?”

“Of course. Thank you.”

Liam laced his hand in mine as we walked. Such a simple act made me giddy. It warmed my entire body from head to toe. It was a long forgotten warmth but a pleasant one. I squeezed his hand trying to convey my feelings without words, because I didn’t know everything I was feeling, or how to process it all right now. So instead I decided to be in the present, to enjoy the feeling of Liam’s warm hand, the beat of his pulse against mine. I started to walk slower to prolong the moment. But in a few more short steps, we were standing by my car.

Liam took a step closer as he wrapped his arms around my waist letting them rest gently on my ass. He didn’t caress it. Just let his fingers graze against it. “Abi, can I ask you a question?”

“Of course,” I barely whispered.

“May I kiss you? I feel, fuck, I don’t know what I feel. I just know I will regret it if I—”

I didn’t let him finish his sentence, I reached up and kissed him. I let my lips melt into his as he tightened his grasp on me. He caressed my ass as he deepened his kiss, and I opened my mouth to him. I ran my hands along his back and up to his neck, playing with his curls at the nape. We got lost in the moment, not aware of our surroundings anymore. My head was spinning in the most delicious way, our hearts beating fast. Liam finally began to pull back. He quickly looked around, as if he was looking for someone. I looked around as well but there wasn’t anyone near us. If someone had been there before he wouldn’t have noticed.

I stepped back, as my heart sank. Was he regretting the kiss? Was it too public?  This was all wrong. How could I have been so stupid? I fumbled around in her purse for her keys. Liam grabbed my hand.

“Hey, are you okay? Did I overstep?”

My keys slipped out of my hands onto the concrete. I couldn’t look Liam in the eye. I just looked down at my fallen keys. “Are you embarrassed that you kissed me? Do you regret it?”

Liam placed his thumb and forefinger on my chin lifting it up so I was looking him in the eyes.“God no! Why would you say that?”

“Because you’re looking around like you don’t want to be seen with me all of a sudden.” I did everything not to cry. I hated that I cried not only when I was sad but when I was angry. And right now I was angry and embarrassed. However I refused to cry in front of Liam Caffney.

Liam pulled me into a hug. “No, it’s not that. I was just checking to see if anybody had taken a photo. I don’t regret kissing you, please believe that.” He clasped my face in his hands. “But this first kiss, this first amazing kiss, which I hope will only be the beginning, I want that kiss to have been just for us.”

I really didn’t know what to make of all of this. But I did believe him. I just had no idea what this could all mean for the two of us and what would come next. He kissed me again, pressing me against my car. He held my neck in place as he deepened his kiss, biting my lower lip before sucking on my tongue.

“I really should go. I have an early morning flight.” Liam whispered as he licked my ear. “But I don’t want to go, but I also don’t want to be a cad and invite you back to my hotel.”

“I wouldn’t go if you asked.” I grinned.

Liam chuckled as he kissed my neck. “That’s just another reason I like you. Liam took a step back, picked up my keys, and handed them to me.

“Can I give you a ride to your hotel?” I asked. It would give me just a little more time with him.

“I’d like nothing more.”
