When I was first offered my contract at EXtasy Books I decided to contact one of their authors to find out a little more about them. I stumbled upon Viola Grace, and she had nothing but lovely things to say. Then I had the opportunity to meet her at the 2017 Romantic Times Convention. She’s here to tell us about her holidays. Don’t forget to check out her contest!

What is your favourite Christmas song?

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. I start singing it in August. 😊

What food do you most look forward to over the holidays?

Stuffing

Do you have a holiday beverage you like? Alcoholic or non-alcoholic?

Alcoholic egg nog with plenty of whipped cream and brandy

Is there a book you like reading at this time of year?

No, but I like to think up holiday plots for books I could write next year.

Same here. Next year’s holiday story is already in the works! Do you participate in Boxing Day shopping? Is Boxing Day a tradition in your country?

Yes, I do boxing day every year…from my computer. I usually buy something tech related and useful for the coming year.

Do you get your shopping done in advance or leave it to the last minute?

Both. It depends on whom I am buying for.

When do you decorate your house?

Usually by the 10th of December.

When you were a child what was the best Christmas gift you remember receiving?

My favourite gift was a 7 pack of the Narnia Chronicles. It wasn’t because of the books (though they were great and still are), it was because my teacher, the principle of my school and my mother conspired to get them for me, even hiding the books at the school until the holidays.

Is there a unique holiday tradition your family keeps?

The 12 beers of Christmas. Several years ago I started to give my brother (Mr. I don’t need anything for Xmas), 12 craft or imported beers, each individually wrapped. When my sister moved in, I extended that to her. So, now I go to the LC and pick up 24 different beers, divide them evenly, wrap them in 2 different wrapping papers and tuck them under the tree. We also take the tiny booze bottles and wrap ribbon around them, hanging them in the tree until New Year’s Eve.

When do you open Christmas presents?

Christmas eve/day, depending on when we are visiting my mom or other family.

What’s your favourite outdoor winter activity? If it doesn’t snow where you live what makes it feel like Christmas to you?

Cross country Skiiing. It is so quiet and stretches every bit of you. When you stop, it is like you are the only person in the world.

Viola Grace (aka Zenina Masters (aka Viola Masters for dark erotica)) is a Canadian sci-fi/paranormal romance writer with ambitions to keep writing for the rest of her life. She specializes in short stories because the thrill of discovery, of all those firsts, is what keeps her writing.

A writer who crafts a story that catches you up, whirls you around and sets you down with a smile on your face is all she endeavours to be. She prefers to leave the drama to those who are better suited to it, she always goes for the cheap laugh.

Her new hobby is beekeeping. She can be found on YouTube at MysteryBeesApiary. Getting stung hasn’t caused her to write a bee shifter story yet, but time will tell.

Listening to readers has gotten her this far, and with her 400th short story behind her and 500th in the not-to-distant future, she will continue to listen.
