G.R. Lyons has been on the blog a few times in the past couple of years, but it’s nice to have him back to celebrate the holidays with us! He’ll tell us a bit about what goes on at his house over the holidays. Don’t forget to check out his contest!

What is your favourite Christmas song?

Carol of the Bells, particularly as done by Trans-Siberian Orchestra

What food do you most look forward to over the holidays?

Anything warm. Cottage pie or a homemade soup are sounding particularly good right about now!

Do you have a holiday beverage you like? Alcoholic or non-alcoholic?

Coffee, tea, hot chocolate (again with the warm things!). I drink alcohol only VERY occasionally anymore.

Is there a book you like reading at this time of year?

I’m always trying to catch up with my TBR list, so nothing in particular, though I do read Atlas Shrugged at least once a year.

Do you participate in Boxing Day shopping? Is Boxing Day a tradition in your country?

Nope, no Boxing Day here.

Do you get your shopping done in advance or leave it to the last minute?

Several years ago, our family decided that we’d stop doing any Christmas shopping for each other, except when it came to the kids. It has made for a MUCH more relaxing holiday experience!

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

Make the Yuletide Gay. It’s short and sweet and kind of cheesy, but totally adorable.

When do you decorate your house?

Usually, the day after Thanksgiving (though I’ve been slacking the past couple years).

When you were a child what was the best Christmas gift you remember receiving?

I’m not sure I remember any particular thing, to be honest. Though, chances were, it was probably something Lego. I wish I still had all my Lego sets!

Is there a unique holiday tradition your family keeps?

Nothing in particular, though I have been known to sneak into my folks’ house in the early hours of Christmas morning and curl up on the couch so I can sort of wake up at “home” on Christmas day with my family.

That’s pretty cute. I bet they love that. When do you open Christmas presents?

We let the kids open presents on Christmas day (but only after the adults have all had at least one cup of coffee in order to survive the noise!).

What’s your favourite outdoor winter activity? If it doesn’t snow where you live what makes it feel like Christmas to you?

I think I’ve only seen snow twice where I live, but it was melted away within a couple hours. I’m not very outdoorsy, but I do love long walks, so just trekking around town and admiring the decorations is always good fun.

Contest!

Comment on the blog for your chance to win an ebook of your choice from G.R. Lyons’ collection (excluding the Matchmakers combined edition). A winner will be selected on January 3rd and will have one week to be in touch about claiming their prize.

Illumined Shadows (Treble and the Lost Boys series)

Volume: 3

When Victor Lucius was sixteen years old, a few cruel words out of his mouth led to a brutal tragedy, one that Vic has been trying to make up for ever since. Now, working as a missing persons expert, Vic tracks down and rescues people from abandonment or abuse, trying to alleviate the guilt constantly weighing him down.

His latest case—a boy who was kidnapped at the age of two and then held captive for nineteen years—is by far the darkest of his career. If there’s any chance of Vic finally redeeming himself, helping this boy might be it.

But rescuing Colby from his basement prison is only the beginning, and brings a whole new struggle to Vic’s life:

Temptation…

(Note: This story takes place in a fictional world, the same as in the Shifting Isles Series. There are multiple gods, different names for the days of the week, etc. A glossary is included.)
