If you enjoy erotic romance with some BDSM Jaye Peaches probably has something for you. She writes across multiple sub-genres including historical, sci-fi, and contemporary, plus she’s a bestselling author on Amazon. She’s another new to me author, and I’ve enjoyed getting to know her this week.

So let’s get to know Jaye!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m a scientist and librarian by background. I’ve always surrounded myself with books and love reading. My first Brownie badge was the Writer, the next, the Artist (I like to draw too) and then I left the Brownies because I wasn’t interested in the sporty / outdoor ones. I wrote loads of imaginary books in my head, especially fantasy worlds, and then lost myself to the real world of science and technical writing. Now, I can relive all those dreams I had of being a published author. When I’m not writing, I’m a mum and wife, and busy with all those things that make life hectic and fun.

2. Can you tell us a little bit about your latest release/upcoming release? And what readers can expect when they open one of your books?

My latest release is a Sci-Fi Romance, Chosen by the High Judge, and is set in an alternative world where an alien species has overpowered Earth and occupied Australia. The aliens are keen to build relationships with humans in the hope of saving their species, but trust is big problem between them. This is the second book in my Under Alien Law series and features an alien judge and his human prisoner, Zara, who must face a disciplinary ordeal.
My next book is a historical romance set in Roman Britain and involving, not one, but two gladiators!

3. You write in multiple genres within the romance umbrella. Can you tell us what draws you to the genres you choose to write in? And what are some of the challenges of writing within those genres?

The great thing about writing romance books is there are so many sub-genres to delve into and explore. My favourites are Historical and Sci-Fi. With Historical, it’s possible to drop fictional characters into real world settings and play around with history a little, whereas Sci-Fi is ideal for building new worlds and strange events. I also write contemporary, which is the hardest to tackle as readers want the characters and situations to be believable while at the same time something magical too. With contemporary BDSM it’s especially important to reassure readers that everything is consensual and safe.

4. Is there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way, either growing up or as an adult?

I read across many genres, but historical is probably still my go-to. As a young adult, I read a series of books by the Scottish author Dorothy Dunnett about an enigmatic (and fictional) nobleman called Lymond, who lived during the 16th Century. He’s something of an all round hero – poet, musician, soldier, spy and lover, but also flawed and dangerous. He’s my first alpha!

5. Does/has anything in real life influence your writing? (Life experiences, films, books, celebrities, music, places, etc.)

Nearly all my books features places I’ve visited, or would want to visit. There is something in each of the historical books that is based on a real place or some real event. As for my Sci-Fi, I just rely on an overactive imagination.

6. What do you find to be the most difficult part of the writing process?

Usually the first draft flows quite quickly, then comes the chore of re-writing and editing. By the time I’ve re-edited the book for the umpteenth time, I’m crafting the next one in my head. It can be difficult to reach the end point and let go of a book so that I can submit it to the publisher.

An excerpt from To Know You, when Jason takes Gemma out on their first date.

“What do you want from me, Mr Lucas?” I took the bull by the horns. “I’m not a lonely heart in need of solace.”

“Aren’t you?” He raised his eyebrows.

“No,” I said adamantly. “I’m quite all right as I am.”

“Indeed.” He pursed his lips, leaned forward and put his wine glass down. “Seems to me like you’re in need of something.”

The floor should have swallowed me up. I wanted to disappear. Instead, I crushed my knees together, stifling the trembles, not wanting to acknowledge my sexual awakening had been discovered. Was my attraction to him that obvious! He exuded attractiveness and I had responded to him as if programmed like a computer. I’d probably followed his textbook evening: entertainment, alcohol and then what?

“I don’t have a little black book, Gemma,” he said so softly I could barely hear his voice over the hubbub. “I just know when somebody needs me. Arrogant of me to assume so perhaps. I had a spare ticket and you, with your voracious green eyes and shaking fingers, had tempted me into giving it to you.”

Tempted him!

“No little black book?” I asked, almost rhetorically.

“No.” He shook his head. “I’ve never needed one. I know what I want.”

I had to pee—always the way when my inner thing was activated so successfully. The adrenaline rush ramped to a high setting and my bladder responded on cue.

“I need to pee,” I said. Did I just say pee! “The ladies,” I added, embarrassed.

“I believe it’s the appropriate location,” he said sardonically. “You want my permission?” Another heart-stopping smile spread across his face.

My mouth opened and nothing came out for a second.

“No, of course not.” I picked up my small clutch purse with those silly shaking hands he had so observantly noticed. Smoothing my skirt down, I went to stand up.

“Are you sure that is all you need?” he asked softly.

What to say! I dashed to the bathroom.
