Thanks for Having Me

Today they posted the agenda for the RT Convention 2017. I’ve just taken my first peek at what’s in store for May. I’ve only been to one RT Convention before, but I thoroughly enjoyed the entire week, and I’m very much looking forward to next year’s.

If you’ve never been before, I’ll walk you through the basics. If you love romance novels and reading in general this convention is definitely worth looking into, whether you’re a reader or writer. And on Saturday they have special events for YA readers, and specifically teens.

In the mornings you can join in for athletics, and then spend your day at various workshops. In the evening there are social events. And Saturday there is a HUGE book fair with up to 600 authors.

The best part is that you get to spend the week surrounded by people with the same interest as you: reading romance novels.

So I thought I’d take a closer look at the agenda information that they posted today. The workshops that they have are grouped by type, a few of which are: readers, craft, marketing/social media, publisher spotlight, specialty, self-publishing and ebooks, genre, and social events. At these events you’ll get to see various speakers including editors, agents, authors, and publishers. Events hosted for readers generally involve games and other fun stuff and you’ll be sure to see authors hanging around!

Some of the workshops, just in day one, that interested me the most were:

  1. Ask a YA Editor: Does Your First Page Have What It Takes? YA Editors Weigh In
  2. Hot New Trends in Publishing, Part 1
  3. Discovering Your Author Voice
  4. Series, Sequels, and Spin-Offs
  5. Happy Ever Bad Boy

The problem: there are so many cool workshops that they overlap. Every hour there are multiple things that you can do.

My plan: print off the schedule and highlight the ones I’m most interested in. Read the descriptions. Eliminate workshops. Make sure I schedule breaks and don’t overdo it.

In the coming months I’ll post more information about the RT Convention, including things like raffles, giveaways, swag, etc.

Now, back to checking out that agenda!
